Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Hello friends.

I know it’s been such a long time. I apologize!  I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Life on my end is busily-fantastic if that makes any sense.  We had a wonderful Christmas with the kids and family.  It is truly a joy to watch toddlers open presents from Santa.  With the craziness of the holidays and a bout of sickness it’s been a little hectic at my house.  On top of that I started a photo of the day project on flickr that’s proving to take more time than I anticipated.   The title of the project is aptly named “Project Eighty-Five”.:)  You can find a set of my selected photos of the day HERE.  Start at Day 1 if you want to get a feel for the timeline.  Be sure to read the descriptions as some of them are interesting to say the least.

The requirements of the project are to shoot a photo of the day with an 85mm lens for 85 days.  I’m currently on Day 28 and the reason why I’m writing this post tonight.  For those who are not following the project I wanted to upload some photos to share (see below).  As a bonus, for every photo I shoot for the day (that requires flash) I provide my setup and camera info in the form of lighting diagram(s) technically called “Strobist Diagrams”.  I do this to help those wanting to learn more about lighting and how I made the particular shot. You gotta give back!  Don’t be just a taker.:)  Seriously, once you see the diagrams you’ll mistakenly think I’m some expert on off-camera flash / lighting. I’m not.  I’m still learning the ropes myself.  It’s just fun stuff I truly enjoy doing.

I hope you enjoy the photographs as much as I have shooting them and I hope you’ll follow along.

Oh, before I go I would like to remind everyone I will be leaving for Haiti in February on my first ever Mission trip.  I am so excited to see what God has in store and how He will use me for His glory in helping the Haitian people. I will be taking the camera gear along to document at every opportunity and can’t wait to share those images and the stories I know will accompany them. Hopefully some of you will be inspired to consider a trip as well.

And finally, I know I mentioned a big “official” announcement (blog post) several weeks back.  Again, I apologize for not making it yet.  The core of that announcement is that I am now donating 50% of all jimservies | photography profits to mission related efforts / causes. When you hire me as your photographer you are helping to proclaim the Gospel both locally and at the global level.  Truly worthwhile. I’ll detail the “why’s” of this decision in the “official” post. So if you’re interested in a beautiful, professionally done portrait or have a commercial need please keep me in mind.  And as always we’ll have a fun time doing it. I promise!:)

I wish you and your family all the best in 2011.

Sincerely,

Jim
